Logistic services

RS4, our own management and scheduling system, is a fully web based technology, user friendly and able to communicate with every Customer’s management system (e.g. SAP) via EDI file management.
RS4 is able to generate trips based on multiple variables like orders, trucks and destination, job time, delivery preferences and suitable routes. It can choose the most cost effective solution in order to optimise the logistic chain and delivery times.
Moreover, AOG, the smart ordering tool embedded in RS4, imports tank readings from systems like Gilbarco and Fairbanks, and thanks to our own custom forecasting algorithm, generates tailored orders based on the Customer needs.

The company has been trading for more than 80 years.
Using the finance from his father, Thomas Suckling started J.W. Suckling Transport in 1938. His father had rented horses and carts with drivers to Thurrock Borough Council for 7/6 (37 pence) per week in the 1920's.
Thomas, the eldest of 11 children, followed his father into transport and his first lorry was a second hand Bedford delivering coal from his depot in London Road, Purfleet, Essex.
So Suckling Transport has been delivering fuel since its formation.

Suckling Transport became a Limited Company in 1974 and, shortly afterwards, was purchased by Harris Holdings (Grays) Limited.
It operated a small fleet of powder tanker vehicles until the mid-eighties before a short period in container haulage from Tilbury and Felixstowe docks.
Since 1986 Suckling Transport started creating a fleet specialising in the distribution of fuel for oil companies and retailers using the terminals on the Thames; growing in that sector across the Country to this day.

Following the launch of its innovative Non Dedicated Tanker Services, Suckling Transport expanded its operations throughout the UK, and increased its customer base in the process.
Suckling Transport's purpose was to present a new way of working to the oil logistics market by sharing vehicles. By operating this way, we protected the environment and shared financial benefits with Customers, reducing costs.

Nowadays, the Non Dedicated Tanker Services operates across the UK covering all the Country.
Our vehicles deliver to retail sites and commercial premises and we specialise in bridging product to inland distribution centres. Our drivers are highly trained and we have one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the industry.

In May 2013 Suckling Transport became part of the SBG Group.
The SBG Group also specialises in the fuel distribution sector and has strong operations in Italy, France and Spain.

In 2020, Suckling Transport operates a modern fleet of 100 tanker vehicles in the UK.
Many of our vehicles painted in the Customer's livery, with the remaining fleet operating in plain livery to support and carry out the whole Company business.

Our target is to ensure consistency and compliance through positive and effective communication and management.
The main principles of The Suckling Way can be summarised as follows:
